Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Rights among Syrian Women Refugee in Lebanon
Initiatives in Lebanon
In Beqaa, Lebanon, four local initiative projects were implemented. During the third initiative, we organized a focus group to gather insights and feedback from participants. Based on this the fourth initiative was developed.
The fourth initiative aimed to support 35 Syrian activists based in Lebanon, by providing them with Train-The-Trainer (TOT). The training focused on sexual and reproductive rights, health, and moderating skills. After the course, the activist received small grants to independently lead sessions in their community, using their newly gained knowledge and skills. With the means and the knowledge, the activists created and led their own sessions, reaching a total of 172 participants in their local communities.
Outcome Achieved
The primary objective of these initiatives was to equip the activist with knowledge on sexual and reproductive rights as well as moderator skills. As a result 35 Syrian activist are now empowered to educate women in their local communities, extending the impact of these initiatives.
Through these four initiatives, we have created a safe interactive space for participants to engage and exchange knowledge. Additionally, the initiatives fostered networking opportunities among participants and encouraged the sharing of personal experiences for mutual benefit.
Why we Undertake These Efforts
Women’s sexual and reproductive health is related to multiple human rights, including the right to life, the right to health, the right to privacy, the right to education, and the prohibition of discrimination. The state is obligated to respect, protect, and fulfill these rights.
Despite these obligations, violations of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights remain widespread. These violations are often rooted in societal norms and misconceptions surrounding women’s sexuality, leading to negative consequences for their health and well-being. Our mission is to address this by providing women with education on these critical issues, offering a safe space for learning, and empowering them to further spread awareness within their communities.
